The municipality of Gerasdorf bei Wien is located in the administrative district of Korneuburg, and the judicial district of Klosterneuburg, and it borders to the south with the federal province of Vienna. The municipality covers an area of 3523 hectares and is made up of the cadastral communities of Gerasdorf, Kapellerfeld and Seyring. According to the central locations planning programme, the municipality is located in the planning region with a metropolitan core (Vienna conurbation). The function designation of the municipality in accordance with the regional planning programme of the state of Lower Austria results from the following criteria: general location for central facilities, suitable location for industry, and general location for tourism.
